I seem to remember an issue way back when where wordpress would choke when a blog had hundreds of pages.  Is that still true?  I have a client who wants to display the old Choose your own adventure novels as blogs and each of those books is 100-200 pages in size.

Beats me.

Do you mean pages as in completely new pages, or do you mean using the page tag inside a page/post?

Why not just use posts? More flexibility.

That's what I suggested.  I just remember something about wordpress in general having issues once you pass a certain limit in the number of Pages.

They don't want the date in the permalink. (I wouldn't either to be honest.  Plus there's no need for datestamps, categories, etc.) This mu install uses Donncha's plugin and has the permalink page removed on the dashboard.
