doh!  i see that now, i was hoping it was somewhere else.

i was wanting to count the # of friends a person had, then display it like such: friends (14)

i guess that is out of the question with the way the data is stored?

Shouldn't be out of the question. If it's stored as an array in the usermeta table just grab the array and count the items. If the data is stored with one row per friend then just count the rows.

Thanks,
Andrew

If you skim through the threads here, you won't see much in the way of code samples. If you are going to be working with MU, you will probably be more successful if you team up with someone who knows the answers to questions like that. Administering an MU site pretty much requires you or someone who's helping you to have at least some knowledge of both php and mySQL.

When I was trying to figure out how arrays were stored in the database I looked at an array in the backend of WP and compared it to the what was stored in the database. If you have a someone with more than 1 friend look at their friends list and their usermeta in phpmyadmin then you should be able to work out how the array is stored.

Use the count function?

Was that a suggestion or a question as to why I suggested counting the array?  Tongue

Thanks,
Andrew
