I noted a few days ago that pingomatic appears to be dead or at the very least massively broken yet again.  I know in the wp.com forums that it's suggest that pingoat be used as an alternative but they don't have any method of automating pinging.

Any other services one can use?

It's probably getting too much traffic, and can't handle it. It's been slow as shit for a long time, at the very least.

There has to be something else out there, but I dunno what off the top of my head.

"Now" she gets it... lol

To me, from an "end user" point of view, it would "appear" that there isn't enough "horsepower" to keep up with demand. I could be wrong, but that is what it gives the appearance of.

Like it gets so many requests, and then other start getting dropped and such.

I guess the question would be, what services need pinged, and would it be more feasible to just ping those directly.

I would think that on a relatively busy site, it might not be a "decent" option, but maybe it would be.

"Servers donated by Automattic"

Yup, been that way for quite sometime.  I believe (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) that the creator was overloaded on server load and bandwidth.

I think Automattic has bascially taken it over now.  Last time I checked, all the blog posts over there were Matt.

Yep, it's been that way for a while for sure.

But, something is going goofy with it, causing it to become unreliable as a pinging service more and more frequently.

Think about how many wp blogs (including mu-based ones) are out there, and "imagine" how many requests per second are showing up over there.
