Is this stored in a cache somewhere in the db? I had issues before where the dashboard would not display the feed from the sitewide-feed plugin (probably due to some validation error), but after I ran it through feedburner it displays fine. That hummed along nicely for months. Now it won't refresh. And no, I didn't touch anything. It's like this for everyone. Feel free to toss out ideas. (I really hate they they took out the customization feature. And yes, when I reverted back to it errors spewed all over.)

I got rid of the dashboard feeds due to this same issue. Would show up sometimes, then not, not sure why. I have stuff read from DB directly now (who wants external feeds in their dashboard anyway ?).

Yeah, i was thinking of going that route. Heck, I have it on the MAIN site page, but some users want to see it on the dashboard too.

I switched it to using my sitewide feed, originally. Knock on wood, it hasn't had any issues so far.
If I remember correctly, it had something to do with the cache getting hosed and not updating.
IMHO, that cache eats up more DB space than it's worth.
I'm working to do something similar, but skip using RSS.
Basically the same thing as y'all mentioned.

It's all those RSS feeds that get saved within the options table. I believe there was a trac ticket on the regular wp trac on the subject that, i believe, got closed with a worksforme.

Bet it is a sign of a problem. RSS feeds that are being cached are not clearing out. Here's the trac ticket I was thinking about: http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3950Do note that it says that feeds are cached for 1 hour. That's not what I was eeeing the last time I looked at the issue.

Well, either that or (obviously) something isn't seeing the cache as expired, and subsequently updating it.

On my install, the feeds were updating but they were leaving being the RSS data within the table. You may want to check as it may be leaving the crap in there.

So we're referring to the same feeds, duplicated within the wp_X_options table, right? Here's a snapshot from a 1.2.3 test site I'm playing with. Since I'm just tinkering, it's not 1.2.4 yet. Note, this is just the option_name field. I will confirm that the content matches for duped entries.

I'm just making sure that this is what we're talking about.
Multiple entries of the same stuff. As in... instead of updating the entry, it adds a new one.
If that's the case, my "best guess" is that when the content should be updated, it's using add_option vice update_option.
But, that's without poking around to find that code at the moment.

Eh, I think as long as you're willing to learn, know how to find stuff, are willing to try things, possibly break it and not freak out, then that's good enough for me.
Heck, I didn't know squat last February compared to now.
I'd at least warn people it's a steep curve though.

grep isn't really difficult. You just have to be careful with looking for variables. Gotta admit that I use grep about once a month and have to look it up to remember how to do it. One of the schools I use has that port blocked anyway. (Which reminds me that I need to find a port that isn't blocked and dupe that in our ssh servers.) How many of these folks have ssh access anyway? I know with my host, I had to ask for it. Also how many folks will know to grep for 'function myfunction(' instead of 'myfunction('?

True Doc, but it's a basic that they "should" know/learn.
grep -ir "function is_site_admin" ./
from the root MU directory isn't "that" difficult.
Granted, some can't even RTFM, or the screen for that matter.

Agreed but I know of hosts who don't know that either. Granted that they're not good hosts but still... grep -ir "function is_site_admin" ./
*chuckle* Is that what it is? I don't remember the -ir bit. Have to go look it up... from the root MU directory isn't "that" difficult.
But then again, not everybody has that level of access. They should have it but may not. Seems like most folks are trying to run mu in a shared hosting account. I allow ssh access but they have to ask for it first and tell me why they want it. (Although the folks who handle my tech support have permission to turn it on for them. Heck, my volunteers can even do it if they catch the request in the forums. They have root access.) Granted, some can't even RTFM, or the screen for that matter.
Had someone yesterday who didn't even follow the link handed to them. *sigh*
